Salam 1Malaysia,
Mufti: No Need For Edict on 'Haram' Items (NST, July 26, pg 6)

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no need for a fatwa or a religious edict to ban Muslims from wearing jerseys with images of Satan, alcohol and crests of other religious, Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria said yesterday.
He said it was clearly stated in Islamic laws that it was haram for muslims to wear clothing or accessories portraying those images.
"Satan is enemy of man while the cross is the religious symbol of the Christians. Why should we worship the symbols of other religious and the devil by wearing such shirts?"
Wearing such items would only erode one's belief in Islam, Harussani said when asked to comment on a statement by former Johor mufti, Datuk Nooh Gadut, who had said a fatwa should be put in place to address this problem. Nooh said Muslims should not wear the Manchester United red jerseys because of the "devil" emblem on its team crest and also shirts of other teams, including Brazil, Portugal, Barcelona, Serbia and Norway. All carry images of the cross on their team emblems.
